Born in Nagoya, Japan (1950). Started playing guitar at age 13, the same year as the Beatles' world debut. Played in a Beatles tribute band for ten years, then went professional. His band made a major debut in 1975 (Sentimental City Romance, CBS SONY Records) with an American westcoast sound. Later he arranged music for Japanese artists famous and not-so-famous, composed tunes, and worked as a backup musician and opening act for other performers. Tsugei is a master of various instruments, from guitar to mandolin, pedal steel guitar, piano, percussion, and even the ehru (Chinese two-string fiddle)―played both on stage and in the studio. In 2008 released Sgt. Tsugei's Only One Club Band featuring Beatles tunes performed solo on acoustic guitar, and launched a highly popular all-Japan solo concert tour. Plans to release his second album in 2010 and is currently in the middle of a busy live concert tour.

Magical Mystery Playing
It takes a master to faithfully reproduce Beatles tunes on just one acoustic guitar. And it’s an amazing feat for one person performing alone to recreate the melodies, harmonies, chords, bass lines and drums of John, Paul, George and Ringo − all at the same time!

That’s what it takes to recreate the original tunes of the four Beatles, but it is close to impossible for one person to do their later songs which featured other instruments or included orchestral backup. Add to that, that almost all Beatles songs have been deeply imprinted into the minds and hearts of not only musicians but also casual listeners, and you know that any arrangement that was less than perfect would never make the cut.

But listen to Nobutaka Tsugei live or recorded, and you can hear the rhythm of Ringo’s drum, together with the melody, chords, and bass guitar all faithfully reproduced. Tsugei does an excellent job with the popular rhythms of the early Beatles, and will dazzle listeners by recreating the mood of their later tunes and their various effects and interludes on other instruments. And all this Tsugei accomplishes without editing or multi-track recordings. It’s really a marvel to the senses.

This new CD album will be a must-have not only for Beatles fans, but for all guitar players and music lovers to add to their collections. In the fall of 2010, Vancouver and Victoria will have a chance to witness this stunning guitar performance live.
